Connecting sites with THUS City Ethernet can improve the performance of your applications and enable your company to use VoIP and videoconferencing. THUS City Ethernet is a genuine alternative to BT LAN Extension services, and more cost-effective than conventional connectivity.
Most corporate LANs are based on Ethernet, which typically operate at bandwidths of between 10Mbps and 1Gbps. Connecting these LANs between sites over the wide area network using leased lines, frame or ATM has traditionally been slow and complex, with equivalent bandwidths often being very expensive. The bottlenecks caused by the mismatch between LAN and traditional WAN capabilities have also been a major limitation in today’s sophisticated IT architectures.
City Ethernet allows businesses to connect sites in the same Metro area with the same bandwidths operating within their office LAN. The service interfaces straight into existing site switches or router equipment without the need for additional cards, reducing costs. Ethernet frames do not need to be converted to ATM or Frame Relay, which results in significant improvements in application performance between sites. Two sites can be connected to form one network, or multiple sites can be connected to achieve the added security of a ring network.
City Ethernet is available nationally in more than 30 business centres across the UK, from London to Inverness.
