Metropolitan Area Networks
(LMN, NorMAN, EaStMAN, ClydeNET)
THUS offers state-of-the-art, high-speed
network technologies to link students and
academics with multiple knowledge resources
in different locations. The networks are linked
to the SuperJANET national academic network,
and its international links, offering access
to information worldwide. The network provides
students with access to the latest online
learning materials and the opportunity to
take part in interactive tuition.
London Grid for Learning (LGfL)
THUS is a member of the LGfL consortium,
which includes Synetrix (lead
consortium member) and BT Wholesale. LGfL
represents local education
authorities across 33 London
boroughs and its work is part
of a wider central government
initiative to promote broadband
access for schools. THUS organises
the delivery and management
of the broadband fibre connections,
together with supplying the core network fibres.
UKERNA
UKERNA provides and manages the connectivity
between higher and further
education institutions, and
between school networks throughout the UK.
UKERNA takes responsibility for the networking
programme of the education, learning and research
communities in the United Kingdom; and for
researching, developing and providing advanced
electronic communication facilities for use
within these communities.
THUS provides high-capacity services to UKERNA
connecting higher and further education institutions
and local authority education networks to
SuperJANET, the UK-wide 10Gbps backbone of
JANET.
UHI Millennium Institute
THUS provides the data networks that link
14 separate colleges thereby
helping to create a single higher education
initiative. This network also allows students
to link up with other colleagues for remote
lectures.
